The DeBartolo Family Foundation’s Contribution to Sandy Hook Promise
The recent shooting at an elementary school in Nashville, Tenn., hit home with Lisa DeBartolo. Located only 1 mile from where she lives with her family, Lisa wanted to do anything she could to help her neighbors and made a $10,000 donation from the DeBartolo Family Foundation to Sandy Hook Promise.
The national, nonprofit organization founded by several family members who lost loved ones at Sandy Hook, teaches schools and communities how to recognize the warning signs that someone wants to harm themselves or others. They outline steps anyone can take to help prevent a school tragedy, and through the “Know the Signs” program, teach kids and adults how to identify at-risk behaviors and report them anonymously by uploading tips, photos or social media posts to a nationally accredited reporting system.
According to Mark Barden, CEO and co-founder of the Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund, these trainings have
prevented 14 school shootings.
