Empowering the Next Generation: The Skills Center Receives Spirit of Humanity Award
The DeBartolo Family Foundation is proud to announce the latest recipient of our Spirit of Humanity Award: The Skills Center. For over two decades, this honor has celebrated local nonprofits that go above and beyond to lift up our Tampa Bay community—and The Skills Center is no exception.
Led by President & CEO Celeste Roberts, The Skills Center continues to be a beacon of innovation and opportunity for youth in our region. With a mission rooted in education, equity, and empowerment, their organization is transforming the lives of middle and high school students through sports-based youth development and now, with added focus, high-quality STEM programming.
“We are deeply honored and grateful to receive the DeBartolo Family Foundation’s Spirit of Humanity Award,” said Roberts. “This prestigious recognition will allow us to further our mission by bringing high-quality STEM programs to our Skills Lab. With the support of this award, we will be able to provide hands-on experiences for middle and high school students, with the guidance of experienced staff who are experts in their fields. Additionally, we will have access to the necessary materials and supplies required to ensure the success of the program. This support enables us to empower and inspire the next generation of innovators, and we are excited to see the positive impact these programs will have on our community.”
From afterschool enrichment to sports and life-skills coaching, The Skills Center is helping youth discover their potential in ways that are both measurable and deeply meaningful.
Lisa DeBartolo, Chief Executive Officer of the DeBartolo Family Foundation, shared her admiration for the organization’s vision and impact:
“The Skills Center is not just changing the trajectory of individual lives—they’re changing the future of our entire community. Their work exemplifies what the Spirit of Humanity Award is all about: lifting others through compassion, education, and opportunity. We are honored to support their mission and excited to see the ripple effects of their new STEM programming in the years to come.”
Since 2002, the Spirit of Humanity Award has recognized more than 60 organizations that embody the values of unity, compassion, and resilience. The award includes a $25,000 grant to support the ongoing efforts of each recipient. Presented three times annually, this award reflects our family’s belief in the power of community—and in the ability of dedicated individuals and organizations to create lasting change.
Congratulations again to The Skills Center for being a source of hope, strength, and opportunity in Tampa Bay.
